24 August 2026, DUBLIN and LONDON – Exponent, a leading European private equity firm, has reached an agreement to invest in KTL, an Ireland-based provider of critical infrastructure services to the telecommunications and power sectors in Ireland and the UK. The incumbent management team, led by CEO Alan Hanamy, will continue to lead the company as it meets growing structural demand across both markets.

Founded in 1998, KTL has grown from a small civil engineering contractor into an established provider of telecommunications and power infrastructure services. The company delivers end-to-end services for mobile network operators – including acquisition, planning, design, network build, integration and maintenance – and provides overhead line engineering for electricity network operators – including design, upgrades, network build and maintenance. KTL's clients include BT/EE, Vodafone, Cornerstone, Cellnex, Three IRE, ESB Networks, NIE and UKPN, among others. The company employs more than 600 people across Ireland and the UK, and generated revenues of over €100 million in its most recent financial year.

KTL’s end markets require highly skilled engineering and field services and are facing into rising demand. Mobile telecommunications capacity and resilience is seeing sustained investment, fuelled by rapid growth in data consumption and increasing network density. At the same time, the ongoing electrification of the economy, growth in AI and data centres and increased EV adoption are driving surging demand across grid infrastructure, prompting significant upgrade spend to overhead lines in the power sector.

Exponent will partner with KTL to unlock growth through strengthening the business's technical capabilities, investing in recruitment and workforce capacity, and capturing demand driven by these structural trends.

Anthony Clegg, Partner at Exponent, said: “KTL is a fantastic business with a strong heritage across the mobile telecoms and power distribution markets, deeply skilled workforce and highly technical engineering offering. The business has built an impressive reputation under the leadership of Alan and the management team, and is well placed to support its customer’s critical infrastructure networks, which are facing into unprecedented demand spurred on by exponential increases in data consumption, the rapid adoption of AI and accelerating electrification of the economy.”

John Moore, Operating Partner at Exponent, said: “We are delighted to be backing Alan and the KTL management team on the next chapter of their journey, and to partner with them to fulfil their ambition for the company. We see significant potential to drive growth across KTL’s core markets by investing in the talent, resources and technology that will further strengthen its leading offering to customers and help effectively scale the business. Our investment in KTL once again underscores Exponent’s commitment to partnering with high-quality Irish businesses.”

Alan Hanamy, CEO of KTL, said: “This is a really positive development for KTL and an important milestone in the continued growth of our business. KTL is in a strong position today and we believe we have found a great partner in Exponent. Their investment will give us additional support and resources to build on the progress we have made and pursue the opportunities we see ahead of us across Ireland and the UK. Our management team remains firmly in place, and our focus continues to be on delivering safely for our customers, supporting our people and building the business for the future.”

This latest transaction underscores Exponent’s longstanding commitment to investing in Ireland. Exponent has invested in Irish-based businesses since 2012, further supported by the opening of its Dublin office in 2023. Today, Exponent portfolio companies employ more than 4,000 people in Ireland.

The investment in KTL equally serves as another example of Exponent’s long-standing focus on differentiated, market-leading businesses in the infrastructure and industrial services sectors, with recent investments including H&MV Engineering (specialist high-voltage electrical engineering services for data centres, battery energy storage systems, utilities and renewables, based in Co. Limerick), OFS (specialist technical services for gas turbines and critical power generation assets, based in Co. Kildare), Ethos Engineering (Dublin-based leader in sustainable data centre design services delivered across EMEA) and Optimas International (global distributor of mission-critical fasteners and C-class components, based in the UK).

The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals in Ireland.
